What changed and when

Fees and processes change. This is the record of substantive changes to the fee dataset. Each state row shows the date it was last checked against its state vital records office. For later changes, confirm with your state or county vital records office.

1. June 16, 2026

   Initial 50-state + DC dataset published

   First full pass of certified death-certificate fees, ordering methods, and office links for all 50 states and DC, each read from the state's official vital-records source. Colorado's fee reflects the increase effective January 1, 2026.

2. January 1, 2026

   Colorado fee increase took effect

   Colorado's certified-copy fee rose to $25 for the first copy and $20 for each additional copy ordered at the same time, per the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Captured in the initial dataset above.
